    Change Default Viewport

When I drag a view on a sheet, Revit auto chooses the wrong viewport. Is there a way to change the default viewport that Revit assigns to new views on sheets? I have several loaded into this project that I am using, but one is used more than others and I would like it to default to that.

    Thanks for your help,

    Hi Sarah
Don't quite understand the question. Viewport ? do you mean the view itself is not correct ?, the view template ? ,crop region ? can you please explain a little more.

I think Sarah means the default assigned Viewport Type. The one that defines the Viewport Title and such. Haven't got any luck with that either. So I end up manually changing a lot of Viewport Types because my Schedules / Legend Views use different Viewport Types than my Floor Plans. Etc, etc.
This should be something you assign to the View Properties but I haven't been able to find it.

OK now I understand. I have had no luck with this either. This is a good question. I am so use to picking the title type as I go.

Thanks for clearing that up, mdradvies. It's just a little thing, but it would save me hundreds of clicks when I am setting up a project.

You could try overwriting the standard 'View Title' with the view reference which you want to make your default.

Just like Patrick said... You´ll need to "overwrite" the original viewport (can´t be deleted, purged or swapped) so instead rename the original Viewport to your new "standard" viewport, and assign the desired View Title to that (original) Viewport.

Oh- got it- excellent idea! But just a little caveat to anyone who might use this in the future- switching the view title in the 'original' viewport's properties will also change the views with that setting that are already placed. So make sure you know what you are changing!

Still no means of linking the viewport type to the view title type - I am finding that setting the default to be appropriate to the general plans, elevs, sections works best, as I won't have to revisit every sheet to change those. Detail sheets get individual details placed with the default view title, then all the viewports on the sheet are selected and collectively changed to the Detail type. Goes pretty quickly.

Someone in my office managed to change this setting and I was able to reverse engineer what they had done to find the answer. Start by going to a sheet and clicking on a view (should work with anything except schdules). Then click on "Edit Type". Under the "Type" selector pull-down simply select the view template that you'd like to be the default. Whatever reads in that bar when you are done will be the default view title for all views util it is changed again.

We use one view title for everything these days so this is fine with us. For those who wanted a different view title for different sheets (plans / details / etc) this may be less helpful.
