Managing views and view titles on detail sheets is an issue I've been working for ages. Below is a method I've developed to make things work a bit easier. Open up the attached sample file and I’ll show you how it is done. The task involves placing a drafting view on a detail sheet grid and positioning the view title. First of lets try the old fashioned method.
1. While looking at the view of the drawing sheet, drag the “Sample Detail 1” drafting view onto the sheet.
2. Move the view title into the long horizontal area of the detail bounding box. (Hint you will need to eyeball the location)
3. Move the detail box to align with the upper right detail location on the drawing sheet. (Again more eyeballing and zooming)
Now let’s try this another way…
1. While looking at the view of the drawing sheet, drag the “Sample Detail 2” drafting view onto the sheet.
2. Select the view title and in the type selector change the view title type to “Detail Title – 1 Box”
3. The view title will automatically jump to the correct position within the detail rectangle.
4. Use the move command and select the lower left corner of the detail view box and position it directly below detail 1 (no eyeballing needed)
All too easy right? There are essentially two Revit tricks happening here. First I have made a custom detail view title. This custom view title has its origin set to automatically position itself in the correct location in the detail bounding box. Second (and this is a great tip), if you open up the view of Sample Detail 2, you will see that there is a reference plane locked to the left edge of the detail box symbol. This allows you to select it once it is placed on the sheet. Without this you are eyeballing and zooming to place the detail box on the sheet.
