    Restrict User Material Parameter Options

    Hello,
I have a family with several material parameters. When you go to change the parameter you get the standard Revit Material dialogue with every AutoDesk Material available. However, for my specific family there are only about three likely material candidates that the user might want. Is it possible to restrict it so that the user only has the option to select those three. Or at least configure so that those are the only choices that pop up first?

    Thanks.

Give your material a naming convention so that they are easier to find in the list....suffix_material....or create a custom library with your specific materials, shows up as a separate folder in the list. Or you can simply begin typing into the search bar and Revit will begin to show only matching materials in the list.
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people

You can't do anything about someone changing the Revit Material definition itself but you can come close to what you're talking about.

Instead of having the materials user selected from within the family hard code them into nested, not necessarily shared, families (don't make the materials parametric to the end user) with your main family as the host. Then you can either use Family Type parameters to switch between different versions with different materials, or yes/no parameters to control visibility.

A persistent user can still drill down into the family to change things of course but I don't think that's the issue... if it is you can pretty much give up now. <grin>
