Issue with number of backups

Seem to have an issue whereby my revit is set to save 20 backups instead of 3.

I know i can set this individually on a project but is there no way i can set it so its default is 3 instead of having to remember for every new project?

I opened the template i use, changed it to 3 in the 'save as' options then saved it, but when i open a new file its back to 20.
