BDSP - so much Revit but what to do with it all

Building Design Suite Premium - very nice...

As I use only Revit Architecture would anyone with wider experience of the Revit World be able to suggest features in Structure and MEP that might be useful to an RAC user?

Also, at installation time would anyone know why you have to choose between 'Electrical' and 'Mechanical' for MEP - does it affect content or just templates perhaps?

For the majority of the users at my office we just have our base Revit installed. For a RAC user there are not going to be day in and day out tools in RST or RMEP that would make installing them necessary. We will have it installed on 1 or 2 peoples machines but that's it.

      OK, thanks.

For the modest space they take up on a 1TB drive I thought it worth installing just in case something might prove useful.

I suppose you can "play engineer" and get into the consultants' files and have the software they use. Sounds dangerous!

I suppose it would be nice to be able to have the same software as the S and MEP guys once in a while?

Not sure we are going to install here.........

Getting Navisworks and 3dsMax are the real benefits from our perspective.

It would be if our local Engineer used a computer

Navis does not come with Premium, only Ultimate. As does true inventor.

One feature i think an Architect may find useful in MEP is the Ductwork Placeholders tool in 2012. It would allow an Architect to place duct for an exposed design, without having to connect them to a system or size them/engineer them properly, showing design intent to the MEP engineer. Then the Engineer could swap the placeholder ducts for actual systems, and then provide the "proper" size, runs, etc.

Thanks Scott, I'd heard of that but didn't understand what it involved - I'll look it up

I remember reading all the flavour-specific features lie dormant in each version anyway, they just need "unlocking" - which I "think" was done by bringing in RST models into RAC, or did I get that wrong?

We too got a BDSU, for Navisworks alone, but the others are proving quite interesting - I just haven't had the time to steal the seat from our BIM Coordinator long enough to have a proper play with QT, and for fun, Showcase.

I'm quite taken with Sketchbook Designer - even if the Help says, 'Sketchbook Designer for Mac'
