    Persistence of help video

    I'm not sure this is a hardware problem but I don't know where else to post this.

    Problem: The help videos that drop down from the ribbon when you cursor over a tool sometimes remain on the screen and will only go away if I restart Revit. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm using RAC2012 on an ASUS G73SW-XA1 with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M video controller. The problem is intermittent but happens frequently enough to be really annoying. Is there an option to turn off these "helpful" videos so they don't have an opportunity to get in my way in the first place?

    Not sure why the ToolClip video would remain showing after you have moved off of the tool. Probably a driver problem, or a problem with your Flash installation.

    If you want them to NEVER show then you can set you Tooltip asistance level to "None" or "Minimal". You will then never see the level 2 tooltip text. If you still want the level 2 text from the tool tip there is no way to get that without the video playing. The tooltip asistance level is set in the User interface tab of the options dialog.

      Hi Jeff,
      I verified my drivers are up to date and I re-installed both Flash 10 Active X and Flash 10 Plugin but I'm still having the same problem. After I start Revit I cursor-over the tools to see if the ToolClip is going to misbehave and it usually doesn't. But after I've been working on my model for a while and then cursor-over one of the tools lthat has a ToolClip, it will leave a copy of the video on the display after I move the cursor off the tool. Do you think it could have anything to do with Flash being 32-bit? There is a "Preview" available of the 64-bit version but I don't know if I want to do beta testing for Adobe right now--I'm kinda busy.

        I've had this happen before and I attribute it to moving the cursor off the ribbon too fast. The same thing happens with flash menus on websites; you can trick them into thinking the mouse is still hovering over the menu if you "leave" the button area in the right direction and speed. To get it to go away I am usually able to just go back to that tool and hover over it again until the video goes away or if that doesn't work, wait for the tooltip to expand out to the video again and this time exit the buttonArea a bit slower.

          You may also want to see if the flash plug in for internet explorer is up todate. Somehow the ToolClip leverages this player in IE inorder to play the clip. That is the only thing I can think of. I am not super clear on all of the "nuts and blots" of how the thing work behind the scenes. You have just about exhausted my knowledge on the subject.

            Good ideas. I tried sneaking up on it, sneaking away from it, everything short of putting the computer on the floor and jumping up and down on it. It's really strange. I can work for a couple hours and everything's fine. Then, just when I've almost forgotten about it, there it goes again. I think I'll just try minimizing the tooltip help as Jeff suggested.

              I am still seeing this problem in 2013 on an ATI Firepro M7740 on the latest drivers.
              So it seems not to be eigther card or driver related. I will try the flash player.

                I end up with two windows residing on the screen! This seems to depend upon which help clip is opened some go back home nicely others stick like a limpet. Installed a new graphics card and the problem is still with me. Ideas?

                  You can kill the adflash process in task manager and shut them down. That'd what I do.
