    Export family types

I'm going through the process of setting up a bunch of families with numerous types to now use a type catalogue. This will allow me to update parameter data (like cost, description etc) easier too. Why is it that some of my shared parameters will export but others will not? Are there certain types of parameters excluded from export?

    From Creating a Type Catalog

Note: Only parameters that have values in the family are exported to the type catalog.

Not sure yet if this is my problem until I fire up Revit this morning.

Exporting from my families DOES include blank shared parameters. The only parameters that aren't exporting are <Family Type> which are not blank, they specify the shared nested components. All my shared parameters in these families come from the same shared parameters file.

If I edit the type catalogue .txt file directly to add my "parameter name ##OTHER##" header and fill in the column with existing Family:Type names, everything works well and all parameters show up in the Specify Types window.

So, I guess my question now is, why do I need to manually add <Family Type> parameters to my type catalog file? Is it something to do with the shared nested components?

Family type parameters won't export. It's stupid.

Thanks for confirming Aaron. But family instance parameters will? That is stupid...wishlist item please.

So as I'm writing this I just tried changing every parameter to an instance parameter. Everything exports (text, currency, shared or not shared parameter etc.) except the <Family Type...> parameters. Stupid Stupid Stupid. As I discovered I can still manually add them later. Even if I only have to do it once it still totally blows.

I think they did this because if users fill in a type that doesnt exist that may screw things up.
You can export family type parameters using a program like BIMLink or by using dynamo and then add them to the csv in excel.
