    Column with variable depth

    Hi everyone

    Could anyone tell me how to create a column with a variable depth in my model ?
    OR if there is a specific Family already exist for that kind of column, Could you please upload it or give me a link where i can download it from ?

    You can adjust the base offset of your columns independently using the properties palette. Columns can also be attached to a floor, other structural members or reference planes if you need additional controls.

      Problem is not solved ...

      to make it clear ... i want to create a column with (300mm x 600mm) at the top section and (300mmx300mm) at the base section.

        You can create a column family that is a blend with parameters that control the top and bottom size.

          I'm a newbie with family creation ...

            I cannot help at the moment. I am about to leave for class. Tonight when I get home I will create a sample file and post it here so that you can see how it is done. I find the best way to learn is by doing. If someone else has one already and can help out in the mean time that would be great.

            This is the instruction that I can give you now.

            You would create the base profile on the first floor plan view. First create reference lines that would constrain the object such as length and width.
            Draw your profile and align them to your reference planes so that you can then lock them to the reference lines
            Create dimension parameters to control base width and base length
            Dimension your reference planes and assign the parameters Base Width and Base length to them accordingly

            Do the same for the top profile as well. Either use a second level as the constraint for this or create a horizontal plane at an elevation above the first floor

            Create a height parameter and dimension the reference planes and assign the parameter to it in the elevation view.

            This is just a brief outline of how it is done more info to come. I am assuming that you are using a square/rectangle profile
