I think I know the answer is no, but can grids be visible in a skewed elevation?

My gut reaction to "the complaint" has always been, "How useful is a grid that is showing up along a curved or angled wall?" My bias has always been from the, "I've got a tape measure in my hand, how does this help me?" It can help me find myself in the larger context of the building documentation but when I have my tool belt on it's not giving me useful information, at least not on its own.
