    Project Neon - This Rocks

They have just released on the Autodesk Labs Site, a plugin for Revit -> Project Neon (cloud based rendering.)

I have got to say this rocks. :bb:

I uploaded the sample project that comes with revit and rendered it at max resloution and best quality. It rendered it in 3 1/2 minutes. My computer here was reporting that it could have taken more than 5 hours

The best part about it, once you hit the render button from Revit you can continue on with what you were doing.

    Nice.
Just saw the same in Jason Grant Blog a couple of minutes ago.

Just ran a couple of tests.

It is certainly sweet to be able to click the render button and not have to worry about converting all the materials etc.

Speed wise - about the same as Octane (pathtracing)

Not sure how much control one will have over lighting for difficult interior scenes, but if you wanted to produce a quick rendered image of an external scene it looks, subject to price, a pretty good option.

I've been doing some test too, however, I can't seem to get the same render quality as a rendering in Revit using the same settings. Also large files don't render.

Klaus, The trees in these images are standard revit plants. Are they not RPC?

One odd thing I noticed is I re-rendered the image on the website and selected the "farm" background. It affected the lighting and made the image darker. In all that I have tried this morning they come out with that weird brown background.

It would be nice if you could set the rendering settings in Revit and then sent it in to render. Its a bit odd that there are no real controls for lighting or background.

Love the speed! and love the ability to hit render and go back to working in Revit!

Anyone know if Neon supports custom textures yet? I can live without the lousy looking RPC content, but being limited to OOTB materials would be very frustrating. But well worth keeping an eye on. And who knows, maybe some day the same plugin and cloud processing would allow meaningful daylighting studies and energy models in a timely fashion. Woot to that!

I just wish M-six had pulled this off, rather than Autodesk doing it. But I think maybe M-six is no more? Anyone know for sure?

Sure looks like RPC´s - Guess we are just limited to the free OOTB RPC´s.... The test I did, included RPC´s from my Archvision subscription, and those did not get rendered at all.

Neon could be really huge one day, but still need some improvements:
                  • Custom RPC´s
                  • Custom HDI´s
                  • Custom Material Maps
                  • Better Lightning Control - Sun AND Artificial

And files over 60 MB which it can't handle at this moment.
