Where do you guys go to research products for a building? I've found that we're limited to either manufacturer's literature or paying for software like MasterSpec. Is there any netural source of information out there that I don't have to pay for?

We have several sites here in Aust. that access to manufacturers and suppliers and their products can be gained via. I have found these fairly good to research through. An example is http://selector.com/au. The internet has certainly made researching and collation of technical data so much easier.
Apart from that is the technique of harvesting the exhibitor lists for the building and construction expos. Those lists always have website links. And the shows are always happening somewhere in the country.
And search for links on sites and organisations created by affiliated companies.

http://www.arcat.com/ seems a good option for the US market.
