Scheduling a Nested Family with just the Type

If we want to schedule a nested family we can do it however its coming in showing the family name and the type. We just want to see the type name. This is for Base Plates in Column Families. Any suggestions?

even if you use the Type parameter rather than the Family and Type parameter?
I'm retired, if you don't like it, go around!

If you do a nested family you can only choose Structural Connection types, which shows the whole thing. Am i missing something with that?

Assuming that you are scheduling the type of the nested families in the same schedule as the parent families, then no - You´ll only get the famliy:type from the shared parameter that you´ve created to choose the nested family from within the parent.

any fun workarounds to get it to just read the type?

            Are the nested Families Shared?

Make it Shared and check the "appears in schedule"? Or is this option not available for this Category?

If the nested families are shared you can schedule the "type" only if you schedule them in a separate schedule (What Dave was getting at)... but I´m guessing that´s not what you want?

Think the issue is the family NAME being included in the schedule when scheduling which family NAME and TYPE has been nested into the scheduled family... Clear as mud? See the attached image.

In my opinion, this is the correct answer. But I will add this: the nested/shared family needs to have types, otherwise the "Type" parameter in the project schedule will report the name of the nested family, in lieu of the type.

I don't agree. You can schedule the parent and the nested in the same schedule, and the "Type" parameter in the project's schedule will show the names of the types if there are types in the families. Otherwise, the schedule reports the name of the family, even in the "Type" column.

Below is an example of a casework schedule, of a project in which there is only 1 casework family without any type, named as "parent casework", which contains a nested/shared casework family named as "nested casework" with one type named as "Type 1". Notice the "Type" column in the schedule. When there is a type, it shows the name of the type. When there isn't, it shows the name of the family.

Solution: make sure the nested/shared family has types.
