    Overlapping wall layers

    Hello!
I am creating a wall with multiple layers. The wall is consisted of layer with mineral wool between wooden substructure. How to show two overlapping layers in wall structure?

Well since you do not model the actual substructure (I mean by placing studs) the core layer would be the mineral wool. I would call the material Wood 2x4 w/ mineral wool so that you know what the structure is. The bulk of the wall is the mineral wool not the substructure. Also you cannot create a wall with 2 cores that occupy the same space.

I would do the opposite. I'd make the core layer the studs, and treat the mineral wool like you would insulation. Then, I'd show the mineral wool in my wall sections.

That is essentially what I meant. You said it better than I did.

Could you elaborate more how to "threat mineral wool like insulation" and "show in my wall sections" ?

What I mean is, in a typical exterior wall there is some type of insulation, right? I don't model the insulation as a layer. Instead, I create my wall as if it were void (since the insulation and studs share the same space in section). Then, on my floor plan, I cut wall sections. The wall sections are where I call out stud type and size, gyp, insulation, finish, whatever.

Back in the days of AutoCAD I had a hatch pattern that mimicked batt insulation and I'd use it instead of whatever other tools I had at the time. It was super easy to deal with. I wonder if it'll work in Revit... first I have to track it down/recreate it.

Thing is, I'd much rather deal with insulation in a parametric manner. It's critical that we get indicate extent in our drawings and, frankly, making insulation a detail component, doesn't cut it.

If I find a way to make it work like I have in my head I'll report back.
