Filled regions in detail component masked by model elements in family

    Using Revit Architecture 2014.

I've created a detail component that uses a filled region to highlight an area in elevation.

I have then inserted the detail component into a family, and when viewed in elevation within the family editor, the region appears exactly as a want to see it, in all relevant view styles (hidden and shaded for example.)

When I insert the family into my project, the model elements from the family mask out the filled region.

Is there any way to force the filled regions in nested detail components to display?

Symbolic lines in the detail component do display OK in the project.

In your family, select filled region and depending on what you need use ‘bring to front’ or ‘send to back’ option on the ribbon.

Yeah, that was my thought too.

I already tried and it makes no difference. I can bring the filled region to the front OK in the detail component family, and it shows up OK in the wall based family that I am using. When I use the wall based family in a project, the filled region is masked.

There appears to be no way to manage the display order in the wall based family.

Probably shows up when the view is in wireframe right? You need to move your detail item to a reference plane that is in front of the object..same goes if you want it above the object too.

        OR

Make sure the detail item has "Draw in Foreground" checked in the family...

Tried both of theses (I'd already checked the "Draw in Foreground".) Set up a new reference plane and made sure it was the working plane. Made no difference.

The filled region does show up in wireframe.

You need to rehost to the new reference plane...

OK - still can't get a satisfactory solution.

If the filled region is set with a transparent , it works fine in the family, giving exactly the result I need. However, in the project, the family model elements always mask the filled region. This happens even if the region is dissociated from a working plane in the detail component and is place on a working plane in the family that is in front of all of the model elements.

If the filled region is set to opaque, it always masks out the model elements in the family, irrespective of any work plane placement.

The only way that I can get the result that I want is to place the detail component directly into the project. This is a shame, because it makes the coordination of the detail components with the families a manual process, and therefore prone to error.

Why not just create a filter for that component that will override its projection pattern?

Not something I have any experience with - I'll look in to this when I can find the time.

Filters is something you should make time for....it is a very handy tool to use in Revit, especially with view templates.
