Administrator server - RSN.ini not being read?

If this is posted elsewhere I apologize, I have indeed been searching for an answer for awhile.

I have 2 servers set up. Server 1 can see both instances in the web admin page. It can create folders on both servers. If I click on Server 2 it displays the details for Server 2. See image below.

Loading the admin page on Server 2 displays neither server. Both servers have duplicate RSN.ini files in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Server 2014\Config. From what I've read this is the behavior of not having RSN.ini file on Server 2 which is not the case.

We've restarted the "Revit Server AutoSync 2014" service just in case that is when the ini file is read.
Checked the forum and any help files/videos but nothing I can find is making a difference.
All prerequisites were installed prior to installing the server and installation was successful.
    Server 2 is Windows 2008 Server r2.
The servers are connected over VPN for now.
I can't think of any other pertinent details. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

    1) are you able to navigate and open a model to these servers from a workstation?
    2) verify the read/write attributes of the rsn.ini file on the server.

      Hi Markus,

As far as #1 is concerned, we haven't set up workstations yet. Just trying to get the servers talking to each other correctly. Server 1 can see Server 1 & Server 2. Server 2 cannot see Server 1 or Server 2 (at least it doesn't display folders).
#2 rsn.ini file on both servers is r/w. user permissions are the same on both and are default

Anyone know why folders aren't displayed for either server when viewing http://localhost/revitserveradmin2014 on Server 2? There has to be a reason other than RSN.ini doesn't exist.

You have confirmed the RSA service is running, and that Asp.net/IIS are configured correctly?
Our W2008 R2 server is running .NET 4.5.1.

I assume you are using the same RSN.ini file for both servers? Is the text file encoded differently: ANSI, Unicode, etc?

Problem solved. Damn windows default settings.

The ini file had .txt appended and didn't display in explorer because hide known extensions was enabled. New server install so hadn't been changed yet.

oddly enough the admin displayed everything just fine once the file was named correctly
