    Flexible Slab Edge

I am trying to create a slab edge profile of an edge beam. My problem is that the insertion point for the profile is at the base of the slab leading to a different depth edge beam every time the slab thickness changes. Short of creating slab edge profiles for a ridiculous amount of slab thicknesses is there a way to make a slab edge insert at the top of the slab and or flex to accommodate different slab depths.

I have attached a image of the slab edge profile I've created. I have tried making slab thickness an instance parameter but I cant control it within the drawing once the profile is loaded into a slab edge family.

Any suggestions, ideas or workarounds? I really dont like the idea of having to model a new profile every time I want to create an edge beam.

Ok so I have figured out you can actually inset it to the top edge of the slab. I was just doing it in plan view and it kept snapping to the bottom edge. This allows me to create a generic profile say 500mm deep, what I'm still having a problem with is getting the chamfer to align to the underside of the slab. Is it possible to control this without creating a new profile for each slab depth or is it just going to be easier to create some sort of family to mimic what I am after?

If you really want to model the chamfer, I'd say you'll need to create different profile types for the different conditions (same family, different types). That being the case, I think it would be easier to attach the slab edge to the bottom of the slab and only have a height and width parameter. Make the top of the profile the top corner of the chamfer (get rid of the slab depth). No need to have the slab depth parameter. It's just one more to keep track of.

I would like to be able to model the chamfer as it's a code requirement here and I would have thought most places for a raft slab. Looks like I'm stuck modeling / modifying the profile every time I change a slab depth. Yet another item to add to my Revit wish list.

        Thanks for your input dzatto.

You should be able to use the same profile, just create new types in the project as needed. No need to mess with the profile family again.
