    Heavy Family

Ok so yeah... it has 44 families loaded into it... they are all simple text and lines though. So I ask you. Why dos this family act so heavy when I select the "COLD FORMED STEEL FRAMING" in the properties.

    Thanks in advance. :beer::beer::beer:

So why do you have 44 copies sitting there? That seems to be a big slowdown all right.

Out of curiosity, you have set all these general notes as title block families, rather than annotations. Why did you make that choice?

Nice piece of work, by the way.

IDK i guess I just started my note template with a ttl block family. It is going on a sheet. And i guess it will put less items in the symbols pull down. Doesn't have to be this way though.

I think you nailed it on the head. Its exactly why its so slugish. I have 44 copies. The process I use was to place each family then grab them all and assign the parameter. I never deleted each instance back out. BRILLIANT my alergies are really messing with my brain this year. sigh

      Thanks.

Alex, why did you create such a family in the first place?
What you are trying to accomplish seems to be the job of legend views.
With legends you can place detail components and dimension things, no need to do all that with lines and filled regions.

I think that Families are easier to transfer from project to project.

I just tried to copy a legend from one project to another, and I could not see any way to do that. Could not cut & paste and transfer project standards did not work either.

Nope, the only way to do this is create a legend view in the new project, open the legend in the old project you wish to copy, select all, cntrl-c and cntrl-v in the new project. Or, you could place them in your template...

My comment was not about transfering capabilities, but more on the proper way of delivering objectives and the legends seem to me the perfect candidate.
I don´t like drawing dimensions with lines and text, even if they will not change. Or not being able to use proper detail families.
                Doesn´t seem the natural workflow.
And as Martijn said, why not place them in the template from the beginning? Alex work with his information seems seriously stable for that matter.

We are using the family method because of forcing people to use standards. Plus we will have over 75 note blocks to cover all forms of constructions and agency review. This makes it simple for the end user to place the notes needs and will let us track the changes that need to be done to any notes. Its a little clumbsy at first but whe only ever make changes to 3 or 4 notes in each project.

Dont get me wrong. I am all for the legend method. The powers that be dont like that you cant transfer the legends. Maybe in the future I will sneak them into the template as legends. Because as this family stands it cant do all our notes we have, our abbreviation are a key schedule, plus the drawing list. and it dosent work at all for sheet notes.

The whole thing started as a title block really.

Thanks for the feedback though. I appreciate it.
