Have you tried to override by filter? I think you can filter using the structural usage of the structural framing.

Oh, I really dislike this problem.

Open up your OWSJ family, switch the 3d view to coarse. There will be your problem.

The OOTB K-Series and a few others (US Imperial library, don't know what it might show up as for you) have a total of 4 lines used for plan representation. I've taken to removing those additional 3 extra lines below for the offending families.

It is caused by two things. First you would expect anything "in plan" to just show as a single line for structural folks. But for some reason those families have extra. It is also caused by the visibility for "3d" when the object is sloped (as is the case in a roof). Revit doesn't consider it "in plan" if the element is sloped.

Also there is a specific sub category for structural framing for OWSJ I believe and then the usage of Joists. I can get screen shots later if this is all just confusing babble.

See how the visibility parameters don't allow you to turn off 3d? That's the sloping issue.
The second screen has the lines that are causing the problem. Again, part of this only shows up when the joist is sloped.

Hey, I think I found the solution where you do not have to modify the OOTB family. I did some more poking around and in the object styles, there was an sub catagory called web joists, I changed the line pattern to the new joist line pattern I created earlier and presto, the line types changed and it seems to appear correctly. I didn't create or apply any filters (this was done in revit 2014)

It is amazing what you can figure out after you step back, curse a couple of times, get a coffee and try again. (key word here is c...coffee)

I was hoping that someone could give this a try on their end and see if you get the same results and let me how things turn out.

Do the joists appear the same if they are sloped?

Yuup! Works fine for me too. Interesting because I always used the filter way because I always thought it was [about] the only and/or easiest way to accomplish that. Nice to hear another way to do it.

When the joists are sloped, I think revit gets confused. I raised my support beam and columns up 5'-0" on one side for kicks, the phantom line does show but shows in my opinion garbled. As it as indicated earlier, it may appear the OOTB family may still have to be modified unless there is a way around this. I have also extended the top chord on one side and even though my view range has been adjusted, the extensions still no show up on plan.

Alex, i like your idea as well for the filters but I could never get them to work.
