    links walls with room

    Hey,

I am a basic user of Revit. I know how to generate a building in Revit, but nothing further. I recently got a new job where I need to find out if you can connect the comment Rooms with the family walls.

I will try to explain briefly:

We want to import an IFC-file (drawn with Rhino) into Revit. This IFC-file is a building that can consist of 35 levels or 146 apartments. After the importation, we want Revit to do 2 things:

    1) The building is very modular. Every chamber with the same function has also the same dimension. For instance, The bathroom is always 3,5m2, the bedroom is always 13m2,... . So is it possible to set 1 chamber with the comment room and then say: Every room with these dimensions is a bathroom?

    2) Is it possible to connect the comment "room" with the family walls? We want to give the walls a finishing in the comment rooms. Can we let Revit give the same finish to the walls in 3D modeling, just by defining it in "rooms"?

    any responds is welcome,
also if you think this is impossible.

    thank you

And if you think the question above isn't possible. Can we merge walls into 1 wall. For instance, we draw the exterior wall, the insulation and the interior wall separately in rhino. Can we let Revit recognize these as 1 wall, or if not, can we merge them in 1 wall.

    thank you

What do you mean by "recognize"? You can join walls so they move together, but if you want them to share an entry in a wall schedule or a single mark tag I think your only option is to redraw the wall.

If nothing else has the same area you can sort your room schedule by area, not itemize by instance and add the room name.

Walls are not room aware. There are plugins that can help show finish information in the room element, but I don't know if they can translate that information back to the wall.

Look into using linked files & or groups, it will make it easier to manage the type of project you describe.
