It just controls what worksets from the Link you have loaded. We dont use it much, interally. You are trusting your consultants to have every single thing on the correct workset, if you are.

However, we do have a Workset Delineation chart in our BIM Execution Document, specifically so our consultants CAN make good use of it. Since were Architecture, we generally want everything our consultants have in their models. But, the Structural guy might not care to have 6000 seats in a Worship Center have to regenerate everytime he spins his model. So they can use it to not load our Arch-WR-Seating workset, and not have to deal with them.

      Thanks for the reply Aaron,

I was hopeing this was exactly what I was thinking it was.
Working in RST we find that when we load the RAC model in it can get very heavy for us and VG can only do so much. I am going to propose a new way to model in RAC dealing with worksets. We have in-house Struct, Arch, and Interiors. The arch model houses both Arch and Interiors, our RST models are sperate.

Whats the best way you have found to get people to work within a certain workset? We have trouble getting them to use the proper wall types sometimes... Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

No one here will like my answer, but.... Beat them with a stick.

No, in all seriousness? 2012 will help a lot, since im going to encourage everyone to keep Worksharing Visualization on, with Color by Workset (like layers used to). But for us, it goes like this: I still struggle with getting them to work on the correct workset, but i give them 3D views (one for each workset) that has those worksets isolated, so they can do "cleanup" quickly. Also, our models are generally too large for them to open the entire project, so that helps.

We dont use them at all in VG:Worksets, its strictly for demand loading.
