    Revit and IFC

    Hi,
some questions for you guys. did you ever tried exporting IFC from Revit?

If yes, did you ever experimented issues?

My point is that I've tried, using the specific template provided by the Factory (tested also before with the OOTB template); but with an average success; meaning classes in the IFC model are correct, but floors are not at the correct location, totally outside the building!!!

going further, I've imported the IFC created by RST, and the result in Revit is (see picture) that the floors are set at the project origin point.
(rvt file is in the zip, can't upload rvt files, don't know why?).

For those who wonder what I'm doing with IFC, we have more and more needs to export datas from Revit to check models with others subcontractors, using Solibri MC.

    thanks.

yep, thanks for the link. hope the fix won't be long to come...

but my questions about others and IFCs remains.

Yep, Autodesk and IFC suck big time... I know Dutch firms who have their whole export settings customized to their (and their consultants) needs but still have to export each project a few times to see which comes out best.
I frankly stopped trying until I came across the Tekla exporter. This does a great job. Too bad it isn't available for 2012 yet (probably because Autodesk ****ed up something in the export engine or something)

Can't help you with this right now but please do look at the Tekla IFC Export Plugin. By far the best exporter I know.

          Per BIM APPS blog:

Yup you read that right. So a number of APIs that were created this year like the geometry API mentioned above were developed to support the IFC effort but were done in a generic way.

I did a very fast try with the export plugin, same results from RST 2011 > IFC than RST > tekla plugin > IFC.

            same issues.:banghead:

but IMHO if we need to add extra money to buy API apps to export from RST to IFC, this will be a huge problem in my country to promote Revit use.

wait and see, with both eyes open.....

Coincidently, today, a client send us a complaint over our Revit model, that our slabs and walls didn't line up when opened in Solibri. As a workaround for now, we export our models as DWG instead of IFC.

no workaround for us, we MUST provide IFC file....

Teklas BIMsight exporter "claims" it is for 2012 as well, but its erroring out on the one user whos trying it and i havent had a second to look in to it.

As for Revit and IFC, weve used it for a number of things before, including submissions to the Core. The mapping file as it ships OOTB is practically useless, and some stuff just DOESNT export correctly, and we havent found a good way around it. So we dont like it, but we will do it. Objects by Mass, Edited Profiles, attachments.... They make IFC cry.
