    Speed up your install/uninstall

    Here's a little trick you might want to know, if you are spending a gawd awful amount of time installing and uninstalling Revit right now. And who isn't it seems.

    When you install or uninstall Revit, minimize the pretty screen once the process starts. Your install or uninstall will go MUCH faster.
    Why? Because the installer is single threaded, which puts that cute little animation on the main thread, which slows down the IMPORTANT stuff while the MARKETING FLUFF goes on. Make marketing go away, and everything works better. Whodathunkit?

    How did I discover this? Well, I tried to uninstall Revit on my work machine via RemoteDesktop last night. The animations go really slow thanks to the super slow upload speed of our ISP. Net result, an uninstall took 2 hours. Had an epiphany, tried it minimized, it took about 5 minutes. :banghead:

        Yes sir, .. simply locate this little bad boy in the TXT(VBS) file and update with the GUID for the product you want to NIX:

        uninstallstring="{7346B4A0-1200-0110-0409-705C0D862004}"

        And that's it .. I left a list of ALL REVIT Guids in the file for convenience.

          Also .. its easier if you chain these in a batch file .. I have a batch file called "remove_2010_2011_64.bat" and it runs these scripts :

          Code:
          START /WAIT CScript "M:\_Scripts\UninstallREVIT_2010_64bit.vbs"

          START /WAIT CScript "M:\_Scripts\UninstallREVIT_2011_64bit.vbs"

          PAUSE

                no worries, ..most of this irrelevant unless you're dealing with more than just a handful of computers.

                These types of utilities come in REALLY HANDY when you, say have to deploy new and remove old from 250 workstations.

                  We're more like 25 so I'll scale that into my "to learn" wishlist!
