    Revit to DWG

    Hey there,

I'm trying to export my Revit sheets to AutoCAD, so far I could only export the files either black and white with no solid fills, or all layers in funky colors, also no solid fills, and some hatches seem to be missing. My question is why can't you just export the file just the way it looks with all of the layers with line weights and appropriate colors, and solid fills not missing? Is there a workaround or something to get it fairly close?

Have you tried adjusting the settings in the Export Setup? You can choose and/or specify the layers used per object type (both in elevation and section) together with their colours. Also specify which "hatch" maps onto what pattern in acad - including solid fills.

If you've got "special custom hatches" you might want to append them to acdb.pat / acdbiso.pat file otherwise Revit "tries" to recreate it each time you export - and this never works well.

Yeah I looked into the Export Setup, one more problem is how do you assign line-weights to each layer or sub-layer? you can control the colors and re-assign revit to cad hatches, but there is no line-weights for cut and projected objects anywhere (maybe I'm missing something or maybe it's the Layer Modifier that I don't understand at all).

      Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately a Revit exported DWG has all layers set to Default lineweight. So you'd need to made a colour dependent CTB file to have your DWG plot "correctly" and have the plot settings ignore the Object's Lineweight.

Else you can setup some Lisp to change each layer's lineweight according to some setting (I know I've seen some which set the layers according to AIA standards, but IMO this might be overkill).

In Autocad you either print with lineweight depednding on color which on this case you will use CTB file or create a new one or if you want to use revit default lineweight you then use print depending on object lineweight by marking on all colors and making sure it print on this option as in the attached image.
