    (Help) Getting Started.

    Hello All,

I just registered in this forum, as I´m getting started with Revit 2014, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend me some video tutorials from youtube for example. (Something free please), or anything that can help me through this learning process.

FYI: I'm an architectural student, so architectural design is the use ill give to Revit
(Including, when i more experienced with Revit, structural design, and installations such as plumber, water, electricity, etc).

    Thanks all, and Regards,
    Arqmit

I wonder why people usually ask for something "free, please" in regards to video tutorials. Do you have any idea how much work it is to produce a complete library of video tutorials, organized, structured, in a way that makes sense? If Revit helps you to produce more and make more money, please consider investing some money in learning it. If you want free videos, Youtube is a good source, but, don't expect to find complete series of videos there with extended support from the authors and all that. Some of the few complete series out there (not for free, of course) are handled by: Lynda.com (Paul Aubin and Eric Wing), Infinite Skills (Simon Whitbread), Imaginit (different authors), CadClips (Daryl Gregoire), Axiom's Learning Bay (myself), and others.

Because some people don't have infinite pools of disposable income?

Or perhaps they believe in a new world order based on open source education resources?

Not to mention, a lot of material out there being charged for is available for free (legitamately) - so why throw cash at something you needn't?

Bottom line? Education should be free. To all.

Particularly students (which OP said they were), who are likely trying to use Revit for coursework, and therefore aren't making money from it.

Thanks Daniel, i already saw those resources, but i need something more useful, i dont know, those are like describing of the tools of the app, and i was looking for something more of an example, tutorial, to guide me through the basics of creating a building.

Alfredo, sorry if i offended you, not what i meant, don't get angry, i get you and at some point i think your are right, but I'm looking for something more basic not that advance as what you say, just something to get me started, i just want to be able to do a basic building to see if this tool (Revit) its right for me, and then, if that's the case, i will go deep into learning at a more pro extent. At that point, i probably be interested in more advance learning, and would be considering to purchase some tuts like the ones you just listed (That by the way I appreciate and take note for a possible future), but i don't know yet if i would need it, or if i will end up using archicad, o some other software, or just keep to autocad. I'm just exploring options as for now. Thanks a lot.

Im okay with people asking for stuff for free. If it bothers you, dont give it to them for free. On January 3rd 2006, i took a job in an Architecture Firm, and started learning revit on my own. The forums and the internet were the only resource i had. I leaned on others in the community to learn it, and learn i did. Thats part of why im always on these forums, giving it back to the next guy.

The fact that BIM tutoring or Revit tutoring became such a commodity that some people decided to monitize it is unfortunate, in my very humble opinion. I support everyone that wants to SELL it, as long as they deal with the fact that a lot of us wont.

Im in discussions with management here to put every single bit of training material, content, and resources we have up, for free download. Its not likely that they will let me, but our advantage shouldnt be that we had the resources to learn Revit better than the next guy. Thats a stupid advantage.

I agree, education should be free, but its not. My career is very expensive, and i cant wait for education to be free to get it. Sadly,
Its alsto true that people dont have infinite pools of disposable income, if it did, i will hire one of the many Revit teachers out there, to give me personalisded clases, even at my home.

If you are a student, particularly one who isn't currently working in the field but are intending to do so, research what programs the firms are using where you are/where you want to work. It isn't an efficient use of your time to get experience with a program that won't help you get hired, so it should be a factor in your decision.

Check with your educational institution to see if they offer some sort of access to training - my college started an agreement with Lynda the year I left that let students use it for free. Most tutorials cover specific tools or processes, so instead of searching for "how to build a building in Revit" figure out what you need to do to build a building, and search for tips on the areas you need help on. Building a project in Revit is a faster way to learn than trying to absorb a lot of tutorials before starting.

Also, find the tutorials in "Help" and go through every one, from start to finish as a first step.
