Calculate an area from model in-Place component

    Hi,

I am trying to calculate an area for a component that I modeled in-place as a generic model.
-Does anyone know how this can be done?

I can see that in the properties it automatically calculate the volume, so I've tried to create a parameter divding the volume by the height however it doesn't recognise the volume parameter (revit 2012).

I am aware that I could create length and width paramaters, but many of models are not rectangular, so this would be very difficult.

The reason for all this is that we are at a very early stage of the project so trying to do some massing models that graphically display areas in 3D, but have lots of other data associated with them.

    Any suggestions?

Have a look at masses. You can have mass floors, schedule them, view them in 3d. Wall by face, floors etc....
My advice would be to do it from scratch in Mass, but you can export your in place as a SAT file, create in place Mass and import the SAT. This mass will allow you to apply mass floors.
In 2014 you can even decompose this SAT into a free form element.

      Thanks Julien.

      Masses work perfectly.
