    AUGI Update

I'll believe it when I see it. And the same people will be running the show AFTER they fix their mess, having ****** away a ton of money only to throw the EE based Forums in the latrine. So I will be grabbing all my posts and bringing them here. This is home now. :coffee:

It certainly seems as if they have reached some sort of agreement with llliac.

Nevertheless, I am with Gordon on this one, until there is total and full disclosure of what happened and a fully transparent method of running the forums in the future, I am staying tuned here.

      Cheers,

That´s great news - Basicly it sounds like they are going back to as it "where"
(just with a whole lot less users, I´d think)

I was thinking it could be a golden time for us to pirate all those old posts and invaluable content and put it here.

Well I can garuntee one user who is staying put right here. I'm betting a lot of other will be doing the same. I'm glad that they seem to have found some kind of agreement and the old data is safe and will be coming back online. But the damage is done and many of us found a new home right here. I'll certainly be be digging up old threads there and bringing them over here. Now there is some real power to Alex's idea of changing our signature lines over there to point people over here. I might have only had a couple hundred posts in comparision to some who had thousands but collectively there could be tens of thousands of posts, both valid and "invalid", redirecting future readers to the new Home of Everything Revit.

By the way, what is the best way to load up the moving truck and unpack in the new castle?

I didn't check out the link because I don't personally care what AUGI does now. I went to AUGI when Autodesk abandoned NNTP newsgroups and haven't been to the Autodesk's web based forums. AUGI was a wonderful resource for me while learning Revit and then it was all gone in an instant. Now I won't be back to AUGI either. I see great potential here and I'm looking forward to asking questions and being interested in what others are having problems with and learning about. Maybe someday I will be able to contribute with helpful answers.

                All,
be aware that resigning your membership at AUGI will cause all your posts to disappear, when they finally get around to deleting your membership. I will be curious to see if old posts from the recovered history are also purged.
I do find it a little troublesome that old posts are deleted. I guess it makes people want to maintain the membership, even if they don't use the service, and that creates an artificially large membership number which probably impacts advertising revenue. I would have thought they would want to keep the posts, as those are pages to be viewed, which also affects advertising revenue.
Anyway, wash the taint off and move on eh.

My primary concern is copying MY old data to my local machine. Aside from that, if people still gather HERE, i will be here. They dont seem to understand that the way they try to spin things seems to make me as a user feel WORSE.

So theyre getting the data back, and this whole thing was a gamble to prove to Illiac that they WOULD give up the data if they had to. Again, as if to say: What youve contributed over the years is not important enough. I understand their lousy position. Really, i do. I've heard some of the lousy inner workings from a LOT of people. And the sitch stinks. But that doesnt make the solution any better.

My first priority is copying the data i want to a saveable format... Like MICROSOFT WORD. Then, i'll be here. If deleting my membership over there really deletes all 4500 of my posts, then all of the arguments with Cliff will seem really one sided once i do.

I'm thinking that there has to be a way to move that content over here and then even people dumping membership over there wouldn't affect the original threads/posts that are here. I'm just not sure of the best way to go about this. Just pasting links is no good. Uploading file containing the thread maybe but PDF'ing each page of a multi page thread seems really tedious, especially trying make sure it stays formated correct and nothing gets cut off. Similar issues with copy/pasting into a .doc file. Does anybody have ideas on how to accomplish this?
