    Work Sharing Help!

    Hello All!!!

    I am new to the Revit Forum and wanted to through out a question.

    I'm sorry if this has already been posted, but I've been reading through a lot of tutorials and threads and haven't found my exact problem yet, but if there is one, please direct me to it as well. Hopefully someone here can help.

    I have an issue being able to save to central from a secondary user. Once I've set up central and local files, I am unable to Sync with Central from one of my local files - specifically from a user/computer other than the one I created the central file from. I get the error that Revit is unable to write to central because "it is read-only or opened by someone else." At this point, the central file is definitely closed, and during some attempts, the local file was the only one in existence. Before exiting the central file, I've relinquished everything and all the worksets are editable.

    Any advice is appreciated! We are on a really tight timeline to get this set out!

    I have seen something like this happen if the "path" to the central file uses a different approach between the machine that made the central file and the machine having save problems. For example, if one machine uses a UNC path (\\Server Name\Folders...) and another uses a mapped drive letter, you can have problems. Make sure all machines are seeing the path to the central file the same way.
    Once you have the machine with the local file pathed the same way you would need to make a new local I suspect. Which may mean no way to get work already done there back into the central file.

      More than likely, in firms that are new to worksharing, its an IT issue where only the original file CREATOR has write access to it. Have them look in to it. Used to happen to me in offices in New York all the time.

        Thanks Gordon, I'll check out the way the paths were written. I know everyones paths are mapped correctly, but I never looked to see if they were mapped identically.

          Hopefully Aaron is right, because fixed permissions will then let you sync with central from the current local.

            Aaron, We are a really small office. There are four of us and for the most part we have someone in our office that doesn't the majority of our IT troubleshooting. The file was created on the computer next to mine. If she saves the central file, than only her local file will sync I have gone into her central file and created a new central under my name, but the same problem persists.

              Oh we got it! You were right, it was an IT issue... it had to do with permissions and user names in Windows.
