    Revit's Birthday

I'm curious. I've heard that Revit is a relatively new application.
How old is Revit, or more specifically Revit MEP?

    Does anyone know the history?
    Just curious...

    Ciao for now.
    Say something interesting....

MEP is from 2006... There´s a nice timeline posted here

I'm not sure about other areas in the country or even out of, but Revit MEP didn't get released to us until 2008.
We got our first copy the minute it hit the shelves in early 2008 and it was titled Revit Systems 2.
      Notice no advance in 2007.

I was hired by a small company in June, 2006 to learn and use the new Revit Systems 1. I had only used Autocad before then and the other people in the new company used Revit Architecture. Since I was going to be the only MEP guy, I had to teach myself because there was no training available. The first version of this program was FULL of bugs, so half the time I didn't know if I was doing something wrong or if it was the program. Looking back, it was not a fun experience.

WOW! So I'm in the front lines ... is that what you guys are you're telling me?
jhenry58 - My last two months have been hell. The software works fine, its the operator (me) who's got the bugs. That's what happens when you put an AutoCAD Draughtsman in front of Revit even after training!

The advice I would give people who are going from Autocad to Revit, is not to try and mentally translate between the two.

That's the first thing our lecturer running the training said - in more words.
It looks like AutoCAD, but it isn't AutoCAD. Forget AutoCAD.
It's a very difficult thing to do...but I'm getting there.

it DOESN'T look like autocad apart from corporate styling, forget autocad...

Here is a little exercise that helps when you need to clear something from your mind

think of the word or idea ....... Autocad
then eliminate one letter Autoca (repeat a few times)
                  then eliminate another Autoc (repeat)
                  then another Auto
Repeat till you get to the first letter A
                  then ..........
                  .................
                  .................
                  back to work!

Yup, thats kind of how it goes! My new mantra: This isn't AutoCAD, this ISN'T AutoCAD...
