    Tagging Nested Family Only

I have a a pile cap with a pile nested into the family.

I have then inserted this into a project. I want to tag all the piles in the view, but NOT the pile caps. Is this possible? I.e is it possible just to tag the nested family rather than going around and tabbing or deleting?

Yes, you'll need to use a filter that hide/shows the item you want - flick the switch, use tag all not tagged, flick the switch again.

If the pile is using a shared parameter that is different than the pile caps you can create a tag with just that shared parameter. That way if you tag just the family it will only tag what you want, but you have to be sure the right tag is selected before you tag all.

The nested pile family needs to be "shared" to tag it in the project. When you open the pile family you need to check the Shared parameter that appears in the Family Category and Parameters dialog or in the Properties palette when nothing is selected. Once checked you need to reload it into your pile cap host family again. Save the host and load it into project again. When you want to tag the pile you need to use the TAB key to cycle to the nested family.
