    [Revit Architecture] - Parking Stalls attach to slope

    New Feature / Problem:
    We need Parking Stalls/Stripes that attach correctly to sloped topo surfaces.

    Currently ( and ever since Revit Release 1 !!! ) Parking Stalls and Stripes
    do not attach correctly to sloped toposurfaces, and either "hover" over the slope,
    or "bury" themselves into the slope.

    Why do you need this Feature / Why is it a Problem:
    We need Parking Stalls and Stripes to work properly on sloped toposurfaces and parking garage floors, so they read in all views correctly.

    We do a lot of Master Plans and Site Plans with hundreds if not thousands of parking spaces. They must read correctly in colored plans, and in camera views for renderings and animations.

    All Architects who do parking layouts on sloped sites need this functionality.

    Workflow:
    Place a Parking Stall or Stripe and have it attach to the sloped topography as a "workplane" or be "draped" onto the surface, similar to using the "glue" script in 3dsMax.

    Benefits:
    Parking Stalls and Stripes would work properly on sloped toposurfaces and parking garage floors.

    We do a lot of Master Plans and Site Plans with hundreds if not thousands of parking spaces. They must read correctly in colored plans, and in camera views for renderings and animations.

    All Architects who do parking layouts on sloped sites would benefit from this functionality and spend less time "fixing" or using band-aid solutions, which affects the bottom line and profitability.

    This has been a Wishlist Item on AUGI and other forums for a very long time. Most Revit users have simply given up. This has been ignored by Autodesk for 10 years or more; along with many other poor functions of the Site Tools.

      Works on sloped Floors--I don't think it works on sloped toposurfaces...................

        But being basically a rectangular, planar space, marked with some strip lines, it adjusts easily to a sloped ramp, with "pick new host", but what type of family and geometry would adjust to a sloped toposurface? Something similar to a subregion, maybe?

          Yep. A subregion would work.

          ( Actually, I don't really care what Autodesk does--just make it work! )

          Not all parking lots are flat. We should not be forced to build sloped parking lots with Floors, just because parking stalls won't "stick" to toposurfaces.
          I wish Adesk would give us tools that work, in the real world, for basic everyday uses--like sloped parking lots! ( The Sketchup guys tell me they can do this.) Ouch.

          (And I won't mention tilted walls again, I promise!) Oops--I just did! LOL

            I did this a few years ago on a very large topo - contour that I made as a paved sub-region. Then painstakingly make individual sub-regions for the striping. PITA, but worked visually including a "drive-through" of the shopping center.

              Yep--believe it or not I've done that same thing. Not the most efficient process, esp. when 2500 spaces change 3 times in an 8 hr day!

                Face Based / Work Plane Based with Always Vertical unchecked, will do this already. It just cant *fold* the geometry if it encounters a CHANGE in the slope, from the origin of the parking spot to the ends of it.

                RST is just now able to bend families, and only in locked down preprogrammed situations. Im guessing its a heckishly complex thing. We could use it, but it doesnt rank high on the list of priorities for us.

                    With Face Based Parking spots. (Actually, i dont recall if theyre FB or Unhosted-Work-Plane-Based. Id have to open them to check, but they work fine so i havent been in them since at least last year). They work fine unless the slope changes within the space of the slope, as i said above. For the areas that DOES happen (weve done plenty of complex slabs in parking garages), we make it work with symbology and/or offsets in the family for documentation. Its nothing that keeps us from getting a quality product out.

                    If they auto-bended when they encountered multiple/radical slopes, id be mortified to see the parking spot stripes "tweak" to the sides of the plan, as they tried to maintain some odd consistancy with the varying slope of the topography. Yikes.
