    Creating Error Messages

Does anyone know if it is possible to create an "error message" in Revit 2012 or a later version? for example: if someone is using your family wrong, can you write a "error message" so they will contact you verses continuing on with doing what they are doing? or some type of "text" pop up that you have in a formula?

I'm not sure about a pop up - that sounds like it would require API. You can write an instance or type text parameter that can state that there is an error if certain conditions are met, but it won't prevent anyone from continuing to do what they are trying to do. Depending on what you are trying to prevent you can use a pair of parameters, one which the user can affect, one which controls the family and will only use the specified values.

We did some experimenting with a mechanical family that had a red extrusion around it that would only show up if the maximum airflow was exceeded. I imagine you could do something like that with model text maybe.

Would you happen to have an example of how that would work? I am looking for just a pop up text message, that stated something like "you have made a change that needs review." this text pop up does not need to block/stop someone from continuing there task but mainly present a red flag.
