Are these thickened parts present over the complete length of the floor slab? If so, I would create the big and small part as a Generic Profile and make Slab Edges of them using a horizontal offset from the side of the floor slab. When made of the same material the join should automatically clean up.
I never realized you could offset slabe "edges" to be anything other than an edge. Or did I read that wrong?
Is that how you guys do interior beams? I created a beam family for my interior beams. Which is a better method?
Yep, you can give them an offset to the side which they are placed on. Place the slab, select it and in the properties palette a horizontal and vertical offset can be filled in.
btw: same goes for all sweeps (wall sweeps, fascias, gutters, etc)
