RAC 2012 - is editing materials abysmally slow for you?

OK, so I've got a computer that was ranked in the top five in the benchmark tests, yet I'm finding editing materials in 2012 painfully slow.

Like, click on something and wait a few seconds (at a minimum) for the properties window to come up.

Even just opening Materials directly can take a minute on this project. WTF?

Is anyone else getting this too? 'Cause this sure as hell isn't going to work for us if we can't get it faster.

Seems like if we have a window open with Realistic view it really really slows it down, but it's still slower than 2011 was.

And I thought the constant regen problems when tweaking render settings was bad...

Yes, I see the slow performance in materials dialog on my home PC, a Core2 Quad Q9450 2.66GHz , Vista 32, GeForce 9600GT. On my work PC I'm not seeing the same delays. Work PC is an i7 870 2.93GHz, Win7 64, GeForce GTX560

I see the typical lag if im on the Render Appearance tab and im waiting forthe preview to regenerate, but thats it. And i spent three entire days in there changing materials in 2012. No issues.

Good to know. These are i7's, but the video cards aren't 'all that'.

It's a lot worse when in realistic mode, so I'm thinking it's the graphics card / drivers.

I'm thinking of upgrading anyways based upon how well Octane Render works out for us, so it's good to know it's a moot issue.

Yeah, I've found that culling out the Apperance Property Sets helps a great deal. Thanks for the link!
