    vault as a mass/ graphics/ revit 2013

    hello to all!

I have created 3 vaults as mass families from surfaces(tin) and inserted them inside my project but I wish that the triangles did not appear, that the vault has a solid color without lines. what should i change from in VG? i have already chosen for imported objects the same color and created a material also with that color but still..

    any thoughts?
    A.

"Don't make a mass, because you make a mess". Do it in Revit, with old and good geometry: points, lines, and surfaces.

      Hello everibody!
I indtroduce myself attaching to this conversation with a problem on a very similar vault.
I've created a new Mass family, importing the horizontal profiles I needed from a dwg, and placing them in 23 levels.
Then I've transformed them into reference lines, and selected them all together in order to create a surface.
If I select more than 2 curves, the surface is not created. I can create surfaces selecting 2 curves every time, but I have 2 problems:
1-the surfaces I obtain are very unsatisfying, as you can see in the attached image.
2-when I am at the level of the bases of the vault, where I don't have just horizontal lines, but also arches, Revit gives me an error: in any case, it doesn't allow me to create a surface with more than 2 lines.

Any ideas? Thank you in advanceClick image for larger version

Have you tried....use full perimeter profiles all the way from top to bottom, creating a (surface) hemisphere, then use a void to cut out the arches.
Or...assuming your profiles are based on circles in plan, change all your profiles to only sweep through 90º, create a surface of 1/4 then copy/rotate 3 times to create the full dome.

Theres probably other (better?) ways but they're my initial thoughts on a lazy sunday morning.

thank you for your advices, but I think I haven't understood them completely.
The horizontal sections are made with spline, and each one of them is placed at a different level (distance 20 cm). The sections are not regular circles, but follow an imprecise geometry. That makes Revit go crazy, I think...

Hmm.. I have the same problem and imagine I have 3 vaults to make and really different the one to each other. I have tried also a free add in (green spider by simone garagnani ) that pretty much does what you you did-you import points in sections and it makes curves. but also for me to make the mass i had to make a mass every two lines... to tell the truth i dont think that there is another way...or at least i havent found anything better than that...

I don't think you need a plug-in to do that vault that you showed in post # 1!
Did you do that with the plug-in or with AutoCAD? Whatever method you used, the result is no good. Look at all those little ugly triangles and the malformed edges. Did you try as shown in post # 2? Once you understand that, it's so simple that it hurts.

For more information, see this magazine, starting on page 10: ISSUU - AUGIWorld by Autodesk User Group International, Inc.

The form in post # 3 would be difficult by that method, though, because the arches on the sides don't meet at any point.
