Tracing the source of absent shared parameters

In efforts to populate fields in our door schedule yesterday we discovered a number of our doors didn't have 2 of the required shared parameters... so straight away we're into the family editor to add them, only to discover the parameters don't list in our project's shared parameter .txt file!?!

We asked our counterpart office if they had added them to their local copy of the .txt file and had forgotten to send us an updated one - but they replied this morning to the effect of "what's a shared parameter" - so that's that "solution" scrapped.

This puts us in a bit of a pickle. We're looking at about 12 doors out of 400, so would rather not introduce a new shared parameter to all 30 odd families and re-populate 398x2 instance parameters for the sake of 12x2 instance parameters...

So, is there a way I can trace where the shared parameter came from?

You can export an existing shared parameter to the text file and then insert it into the families where it is missed. There are also tools that help you with this. I dont' really remeber name and where to look at. But I'm sure you will get advice from future follow ups.

Sounds promising - this is in 2010 though - and the first google return talks about 2011...

You should be able to export the SP from the Types screen from one of the doors that has the SP in it. It is also in 2010. You can create a new SP file for that if you want.

Thanks guys - shared parameters located, and exported, and introduced into the families that didn't have them. Happy days! : D
