    Mass face

I have made a in-place mass and will now apply a "wall by face". It works fine, but my question is: is it possible to split a mass face and the apply 2 different wall types on the face that are splitted??

I have tried but it doesn't work. Do i really have to make 2 masses, one for each wall type?

This is possible. When editing the in-place mass, select an edge of the mass, then in the ribbon, under the Form Element panel, select the Add Edge tool to "split the face into two parts. Finish the mass, then use the Wall by Face tool to add in different walls to the surface.

Okay it works fine but i can only split vertical, not horizontal... Is it not possible to make a horizontal split??

this has been a gripe of mine for ages, afaik it's still not possible with basic masses  revit modelling doesn't work like a free-form modeller with unlimited vertex placement, everything must be referenced from here to there. in the case of eg. a simple extrusion (mass/solid/void) these reference planes and the static shape of the profile are the only bits of information contributing to shape. All these references lie adjacent to the extruded length and there is just no information available for revit to add a horizontal edge. you can in fact add a profile, it's a horizontal edge all the way round. good for manipulating surfaces but not a real edge to finish a wall off with.

i'm sure adaptive components will achieve what you want but i don't use them very much so we'll have to wait for someone far cleverer than me to share their insights.

You can simply apply two walls to the face, and then use the "grips" to pull each wall up/down as desired...

But agreed, a horizontal split face toll would be handy

No No No, i wouldnt do that. Once you mess with the grips, you lose your mass associativity. And if its a complex curve, there ARE no grips. You need an edge on the Mass, but there are a bunch of ways to get them. Add Edge, Add PROFILE (usually works vertically), intersects dont work yet (for wall by face) but im hoping soon they will.

If you need to add a vertex you can also edit the profiles top and bottom and split the sketch lines. Breaks in the sketch lines will connect to form angle vertices.

LOL, I agree to some point, but in this case I´ve seen the mass shape (pretty basic shape), and am pretty sure that it´s not subject for change.

But for complex shapes, and indeed shapes that are subject to change, I´d totally agree

If its that simple of a shape that youre going to disassociate from the mass, then dont use the mass. Itll just confuse everyone else when they realize its no longer tied to anything...

Yah, but the simple shape does have one sloped face... Sloped Wall tool would be nice... Right Cliff ? LOL

I have a lot of these masses Klaus. 10 in this project, with different shapes (see attached image). And like some of you say, on all the sloped surfaces, there are no grips! it's only because of the sloped surfaces i work with these masses....
