Project Newport reborn as Autodesk Showcase.

    This is Sweeeet!

We would like to thank you for your interest in Project Newport, and we are thrilled to announce that Project Newport efforts have been factored into Autodesk® Showcase® 2012 real-time 3D presentation and rendering software, which is now available!

Try it now and see how quickly and easily you can turn your Autodesk® Revit® Architecture and AutoCAD® designs into compelling imagery, movies, and immersive presentations for interactive design reviews, stunning marketing materials, and convincing sales pitches.

"Showcase is a true game-changer when we present architecture designs to our clients. It brings 3D rendering to a higher level of interactivity, and provides the ability to explore materials and environments on-the-fly. I don’t have to come back to the office and press ’render’ every time I want to show my client another material alternative. With Showcase, the time savings are incredible."

    - Gedeon Trias, Associate Director of Design, Larson & Darby Group

For more information about Showcase, visit http://www.autodesk.com/showcase

Showcase 2012 can be purchased as a stand-alone product or as part of one of our suites, such as Autodesk® Design Suite or Autodesk® Building Design Suite.

Well, that is great news. However, I'm not sure if Showcase can produce the same quality and have the same features as http://lumion3d.com/. I'll download them both and run some tests.

One question though: does Showcase do native Revit files or do we need to export? It says it does but I can't find the rvt-file in the FAQ summary of importable file types.

Prior versions of Showcase worked with FBX (and didn't work very well with Revit FBX, which shouldn't even be called FBX because it's so different, but I digress...).

I haven't had a chance to check out 2012 yet, but I just assumed that it too worked via FBX. I'd love to be wrong there.

As far as I can find, it is still FBX, which means it likely sucks donky with a Revit workflow. I would love to be wrong, but I think the proper response is "Nice try Autodesk. After 5 years of vapor THIS is what you produce?"

I was curious too, so I tried it yesterday. At the start, it looks shiny, and ask you to create a scene from a Revit file, but when you click, the browser is just searching for fbx.

And that would "Cancel all downloads"... Bummer!

                Andrew,

Thanks for the link to Lumion that thing looks cool. I looked at some of the demo stuff for Newport and downloaded and tried Showcase as well. Showcase didn't do it for me at all. All I want is a way to interact with my model in a "Call of Duty" way of navigation. Arrow keys to move and mouse to look around and have it know that walls and floors are solid so you don't walk through them.

Nova from VERTICE ( French firm, hourra!) does it. I tried the demo few month ago, not really COD 4, but more a Duke nukem like.
