    Decal problems

I have never been using decals before. Now I'm working on an urban interpolation project and thought it would be a good idea to model existing buildings as simple extrusions and to put photos of their facades as decals on the elevations facing main street.

Problem is simple: decal is not showing in the realistic view and it is black in the render.
So far, Google gave me no answer. I found a guy on That Other Revit Forum with similar problem, but only in the rendering. He solved it by putting path for the image in the Rendering options path. This didn't helped. Image is in RGB colour space already, so it is not an issue.

I also tried to insert random pics as decals, but none of them showed.

    Any opinions?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Hirvio, and welcome to the Forum.

Any chance that the Decal is a JPG? I´ve had some problems with JPG´s and Decals in the past... Maybe try a PNG instead?

And yes, the path to the decals should always be set in the "Additional Render Appearance Paths"

I tried TIFF, uncompressed TIFF, JPG, BMP and finally PNG.
I'm sure I am missing something stupid. Is there any switch that is supposed to be "on" for this?
I just started an empty file, made simple wall, put decal on it, turned Realistic view mode, and... nothing happened :banghead:

      Virtual cheers for now
Real one will have to wait few more hours..

        Try this.
        CREATE NEW MATERIAL.
        GO TO RENDER APPERANCE.
        CLICK IN BOX.
        PATH TO IMAGE.
        SCALE TO REAL WORLD SIZE
        CHANGE REPEAT TO NONE
Then apply with "paint" to "wall or face" of the same real world size.

Warning. Never use .TIFF file in Revit.

Hmmm... could it be related to your OS being in Croatian ? We´ve had some problems with Danish Characters and Windows XP.... See this thread.

Thanks Klaus, it is working. I remember similar problem from the dark ages (I think with WinNT 4.0), and couldn't imagine that something like that is happening again!
But it is only half of the problem solved. It is still not visible in realistic view, only in rendering.

UPDATE: Hardware acceleration was turned off. When turned on everything is fine.

Problems like this should indeed have been left in the "dark ages" Glad that you got it working though

There are two issues regarding this problem...
File location, and file type and size.
I don't recomend you to use files much larger than 100Kb... I've used Jpg, Bmp and Png with no problems...
I usually place the files I want to use inside the Mats Lybrary, under the file name Details.Decals.xxxxxxxx(name).(jpg or whatever).
The one thing I'm having problems is with the LCD luminance or any other type...
It all runs smoothly until I use this feature... When I use self-luminance, the decal goes blank and doesn't render...
                Any clues?

hi AFTER several HITS & MISS,,,, I successfully tried - - - - - - deleting the blank polygon with the x..All of the problematic decals in ur model, delete 'em ALL...then go to manage,,,, purge ALL,,,,then I reviewed all my picture files.... must be jpeg & a reasonable file size, 500 x 600, resize later....Finally, start again with a new decal.......Gives you 100 % satisfaction & 0% frustration... hope I helped....

Thanks for the effort, but don't you think you came a bit late? And, by the way, it was the OS/local characters thing, as mentioned earlier.
