No sir... Painting overrides the SURFACE pattern, and the render appearance / surface material. It does NOT override the cut pattern. Its so you DONT have to make sure Safety Red has a Steel Cut Pattern.

I can assign material "Steel" to the geometry through the Material selector. Then i can "Paint" every surface of it with "Paint-Safety Red" and that can be the same safety red i use on all kidns of things, with no cut pattern, and it wont matter.

Without trying it first, how does that goes with schedules?
Is it the holy grail? steel in weight and paint in m2 (ou sf) in the same family?

          Gang-

I spoke to the guys at the Factory, and they have it documented as a known issue that is scheduled to be addressed for 2012. Not sure if they mean the final release or a web update, but they are on the case!

Thank you for the update, Aaron. I would like to have this feature back as it was before. Hopefully they include it in the next update.

              Thread-Necromancy Here We Come!

Did they fix this? My 2012 still suffers, and I've just built a wonderful version of the Thomas Heatherwick Spun Chair and want to do the special edition wood & steel for a 2012 project I'm doing.

They fixed it, but we are experiencing weirdness in the fixed version of 2012 where, if you paint a PARAMETER and not a Material, it lets you paint but still doesnt work. However, its fixed in 2013, so we dont care, lol.
