    First Impressions V 2012

I just upgraded an 80MB custom house I am doing. The upgrade was way faster than previous versions...also flipping through 2D and 3D views seem way faster. Just to be safe, I usually hold off for a couple of weeks before working in a new version, but I feel pretty comfortable continuing work in 2012 (I hope I don't regret it)

Unfortunately, my favorite new feature, doesn't work as I though it would. Solids cannot cut other solids in the family editor as in the massing family. It can only cut or join other solids in the project environment. As a matter of fact, It's only now that I found out that you can join generic solid families in the project in previous releases too.

I went thru this and I think you can join solid families in the family editor. But I think they have to be nested. I remember coming across this during the beta.

I tested this with a simple generic model family nested in a Generic Model family. No dice unfortunately
I used to be high on life, until I realised it was cut with Morons.

This only works in the project environment for family components. It will also works in a conceptual massing family.

          From the help file:

Cutting geometry with solids. You can use solid forms to cut other solids as with voids. When you use a solid, you remove the overlapping area, and the abutting solids remain. This capability is available in conceptual massing and for family instances of all categories in the project modeling environment.

if the install is anything to go by, im gonna HATE this release.

just keeps messing up and stalling, lagging, crashing..

Mine installed pretty quickly. No issues at all.

I have a few questions, though:
              1. During install, it gives you a choice between architectural and construction disciplines. What's the difference as far as what's installed??
              2. I thought I read somewhere that the type selector is in the ribbon now? Mine is still in the properties palette. Is everyone else's in the properties palette as well?

If you right click the Type selector in the properties palette you can choose to add it to the Moidify tab of the ribbon or to the QAT.

Ahhh, okay. I thought I read something about that. So it's not there by default, but you can now put it there. Got it.

What about the architectural vs. construction question?

I didnt get asked any questions during the install, but it was extremely easy, once i cleaned out the Registry from having the beta release on here. Nary a single issue.
