I have a similar question. I have exported to DGN before (just make sure that you export using a seed file), but my problem comes when my pipers have to extract my model in PDS. Their machines lock up when my model is attached. Any suggestions?

I'm completely new to exporting to Microstation so I have no idea... :crazy:

A seed file in Microstation is typically a blank microstation file that has all of the correct parameters in it. Microstation uses working units to determine what scale the file should be at. If your seed file is set to 8000 working units, but everyone else is working in, say, 12000 working units, your model won't come in at the right scale. A seed file is more or less like profiles are in AutoCAD.

My suggestion to you is to obtain a Microstation file that the people that you're working with are already using (this will have to be a 3D microstation drawing). This ensures that the working units are the same. Rename it to something like seed3D.dgn. Open the file in Microstation and remove all of the references (File>Reference) and delete everything in it. You won't need anything in it, it just takes the parameters of the file. If you don't have access to Microstation, and you're just doing this to pass the model along to a consultant, ask them for a seed file. They should give you one that works with your model and project. When you export in Revit, choose DGN, then select the second tab that says "DGN properties." Check the box that says "Enable DGN template file", then browse for your seed file. I've never had any luck clicking "Save Settings", so you'll always have to remember to locate your seed file before you export.
