    Rendering sheet size

    I know that I can select the camera window and change the image size prior to rendering, but here's my issue.

    The boss wants a 8'x4' coming soon sign on the site. When I change the crop size to 8'x4', it's obviously huge!

    How can I get the dimensions that big, but only have a close up of the building? Should I just leave it at 8.5"x11" and do 600 dpi? That's a huge file!

    I used to do this in ACA with no problem.

      Dan, just keep the physical size of the image at 8'x4', but change the DPI to 75.
      That should give you a finished render @ roughly 7000x5000 pixels.
      Sure it will be grainy from up close, but a sign like that is usually seen from a distance.... :beer:

        True, but El Heffe likes it to be clearer. 75dpi wont do. Maybe 150 will though.

        The problem is when I make the physical size that large, the building is tiny with 2 miles of open area and sky around it. Moving the camera in messes it up even further. What am I missing?

          Never mind, I figured it out. I didn't see the "lock proportions" option. All is good.

            Let us know how huge the file is and how long it takes to render.

                Well it won't render! lol

                I started it on my work machine, and it was 25% done after 30 minutes. Although, I hadn't gotten to the building yet. That was mainly concrete and grass.

                I decided to end that and do it on the virtual machine my IT guy set up. We were having RPC issues, but we fixed them yesterday. Anyway, if I render it set to screen and draft, it renders. If I do it on printer at 75 DPI, it renders.

                I'm tring to do it at 150 DPI and it just comes up with a black box after about a minute. Memory issue??

                  Yes, that sounds like a memory issue... not surprisingly

                    First off, thanks for the offer.

                    Second, will you still be able to work? I'd hate to take over your machine for a few hours.

                    Third, will it work since you don't have the same locations for materials and my RPC's? Actually, you don't have the same materials and RPC's, regardless of location. lol

                    I have a call into my sign guy. He usually wants 90 DPI so I wonder if 75 would work. There isn't a way to adjust your DPI is there? You only get 4 options, right?

                    That'd be a nice wish list item!
