You can create "Project Parameters" that are associated to the "Views" catagory. You will see these parameters in the properties of you views. Then in your browser orginization you can sort by these new paramets how ever you like.

I have no issues on sorting them...they sort as I like right now with folders by Family and Type...what I am needing is when I create an Elevation: Rebar - Slab I want it to have a default view template "A" and when I create Elevation: Rebar - Wall I want it to have a default view template "B."

You can do this if you choose to Duplicate an existing view. But simply creating a new view does not give you the capability of having a preassigned view template assigned.

In a way this is true...in the view templates you can check the checkbox "Apply automatically to new views of same type" and then every time you make an elevation it will start it with that view template listed in the "Default View Template" paramter and uses its properties. To me since I have to "Edit Type" Elevation: Rebar - Wall is a different type than Elevation: Rebar - Slab but the apply automatically to new views of same type applies it to all elevations. So I am trying to see if there is a way to make it actually break down by type not by family.

Nope. You have to pick one VT that applies to all views, at the Family Level (plan, elevation, section). For that reason, we have Default view templates "Default-Plan, Default-elevation..." and so on. They are basically the same as the documentation view templates (one of them, anyway), but they also clear out the text parameters that we sort the browser by, so they go in to the ??? folder automatically. Then, i encourage the users to NOT fill in the values manually, but instead to apply the view template that is correct, which fills in the sorting parameters. That way its a good bet that the VT got applied correctly.

Its not fool proof, but nothing is. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE each View TYPE (instead of each view FAMILY... which makes the term they used in that dialogue box wrong wrong wrong) to have its own actual automatically applied View template.

This is a dream for me too, applying view templates should be a lot easier, with a lot more ability to preset and automate

Something i have done is change my 'apply view template to current view' hotkey to 'AA', that way when creating a view, the first thing I do is hit AA and choose my view template, especially good if I am setting up a heap of different section & detail types with pre-created view templates

I am with you guys on that...the terminology is completly wrong and that sure would be nice to be able to apply a different template to different types by default.

I just set them all up and do them all at once from the Browser... Less stuff to click.
