    Formula Help

    I keep gettin an inconsistant unit with this
    h1 = (X1 * tan(Brace Angle) + Width of Brace / 2) / sin(Brace Angle) + (Depth of Beam / 2) / tan(Brace Angle) - Depth of Col / 2

    This is the formula that is screwing me up.
    Wh = (h1 + Depth of Col / 2) - (Deck Thickness / (tan(Brace Angle) + atan(X1 / tan(Brace Angle) -1")) / (X2 + X3))

    Any Ideas? I am losing my mind with this formula. Family is attached.

    I have NO idea how you guys live with feet and fractional inches... :banghead:

    Think I´ve solved it, but had to convert the file to Metric, and break down the formula to deal with the inconsistent units... (Would be possible to put it into one formula again, but had to break it up to identify the different "inconsistent units")

    The main problem is the atan, which you need to break into length units - I did that by first breaking it into a number unit by dividing with 1 degree, and then breaking the number unit into a length unit by multiplying by 1 mm.

    Again, you´ll still need to deal with the metric vs. imperial issue, but maybe the attached will give you a clue on how to deal with it. :beer:

    BTW: I´ve placed all parameters and formulas done by me under "Analysis results"

      Where did you come up witht he 25.4? in the AtanX formula?

          Exactly 1" was hardcoded into the formula, and I swapped that with 25.4 mm´s

          ......atan(X1 / tan(Brace Angle) -1")) / (X2 +........

              I get what you are doing and have duplicated it in my family... I think my calcs are wrong somewhere though. Thanks for the help. Its working correctly now. just not the right formulas.

                Sorry, have no clue what the formula is supposed to do, so didn´t check the math behind it

                I did manage to simplify the formulas a little, but still need 3 extra parameters to convert the Angle from the atan formula, into a Lenght parameter...

                Did I mention that I hate "Inconsistent Units" just as much as I hate "Feet and Fractional inches" :crazy:

                  Just remember that 1" = .083333' and it's easy!

                    I have it down to this now. But my math is still off somewhere. I am gona have one of our engineers look at all the formulas. I will post it once we have a working family. :whiskey:
