    pan in 3d view

Hi, when I'm in a 3d view, i can zoom by scrolling the mouse wheel and orbit by holding down shift and the mouse
wheel at the same time, but when I just hold down the mouse wheel, it pans this kind of viewport I'm in instead of
the drawing in the viewport, how can I just pan the drawing?

    Thx,

Try shift+w to see the navigation wheel in a 3D view - you then have multiple options to change where you are viewing your model from or what part of the model you are wanting to focus on.

thanks, but I find it quicker to just hold down the mouse wheel to pan instead of changing to the navigation wheel every time, but this isn't possible in revit?

What mouse driver are you running? Just check the mouse settings and disable whatever setting is preset for that function? Or reset the driver to the standard driver
The downside is you will loose functionality in other software like office

But it does pan and zoom, but only on the viewport, not the drawing that is in it

It sounds like what you are wanting to do is actually move the crop region, the way an unlocked viewport in Autocad does... And no, Revit doesnt do that, since that crop region IS where that view is. It isnt a cropped version of a larger 'view,' even in the context of dependant views. The "Area" dependent view you are in, stops at that crop region.

The only way to pan the "crop region" is to move it, or change its extents with the pull tabs.
