    Lighter shadows

Is there any way to get lighter shadows when rendering like you can lighten or darken shadows in the shaded views. I have the shadows set to the lightest rendering setting but I would still like them lighter. I had to go into photoshop to lighten up the column shadows. It would be nice to be able to get lighter shadows in the original rendering. I guess I could go with all artifical lights.

Have you looked at the exposure settings? After you render, you can change some settings, shadows being one of them. Although, I think the default is 0.2 so there's not much room to lighten them. It's in the render dialogue box near the bottom.

Set the time to dusk, dawn or night and then use "Adjust Exposure" to get a brighter "Exposure Value"
This will give you some very soft shadows

Thanks for the suggestions. My shadow setting in the exposure settings is at 0.1 which is the lowest. I had previously done a rendering with the time of day set to 2:30 am to get a very white rendering and soft shadows..it looked great on the computer screen, but when I printed it out it looked pretty faded without much punch. I think I might experiment with using artificial lighting instead of the sun. Thanks again.

Artificial lighting will also give you dark shadows, unless you plan to place multiple lights (artificial suns) to brighten up the shaded areas?

Seems like too much work, with a lot of trial and error before you´ll get a satisfying result. I think I´d go for post editing in PS

          Good luck to you!

Just to add to these solutions, under 'graphic display options' in the properties menu, you can find under 'lighting' a scroll that allow you to adjust the strength of shadow darkness.
