    Revit Automated installs

I am looking for a way to add to the Revit deployment process. I want to either preset what "Places" are available by default as part of the installer, or modify the registry with a script or REG file.

    My current process is
    1: Install as Admin user
    2: Login as user
3: Copy ini & shortcuts files
4: Launch Revit to build Revit section of Current User hive
5: Close Revit and import REG file

That latter part of launching Revit to "finalize" the install and then closing and revising the install is the painful bit. I would much rather modify the deployment so the correct Places info is placed in HKCU to start with. I had hoped that Post Requisite in the AdminImage.ini might do the trick, but that runs prior to the actual launch of Revit as far as I can tell, so unless I can modify the actual install registry bits I am still going to have to launch Revit as the specific user, close, then update the registry. Yuck. Gotta be a better way.

    Thanks,
    Gordon

Im not sure why you have to do that anyway... We dont.

You can have the deployment place the Revit.ini for you. At least... you were able to in 2011. Im not sure about 2012, where its all user stuff... But i *think* it still has provisions because it will pull from the Program directory in the case that the User Files dont exist.

But there is a place in the AdminImage that- if you place the modified Revit.ini file there- it auto drops it in the Program Files. Our "Places" were defined by me in the Revit.ini, and they go out with the deployment, and we dont log on to any of the machines as the End Users...

      Aaron,
what heading do you use for Places in the INI? Mine shows Recently Used, but nothing about Places.

      Thanks!

Ah, bummer. Yeah, that adds the Revit Library stuff, but it all comes in below History, Documents, My Computer, etc. I am hoping to add Links at the very top. Actually I would like to move the Revit stuff to the top, remove Favorites which points to Web favorites and is useless, etc. I suspect a REG file and a Post Install script are still the best answer. At least it is the Devil I know.

Ahh. Then in that case get IT to make the script always run at login? And then send it to me? LOL.
