    drive host through nested instance

    I have a brain teaser:
I am creating a new window family which has multiple panels hosted (glass, turning, tilting, etc).
Now I want a fomula in the window family to respond to the type of panel. For instance:
    type 1, formula = Area*50
    type 2, formula = Area*30

    Any ideas?

But what parameter (and what kind of parameter) is the one that is going to be = Area * 50 ?

Until report parameters you couldn't do that. I`m not sure even if you can do it know(i haven`t tested report parameters to much). If they could do it the way I see is like this:
every kind of panel has a "strong" reference plane that has the name "marker" for example. Panel 1 has the marker at 1cm offset outside of the panel(parallel with the panel). Panel 2 has the marker at 2 cm. panel 3 at 3 cm..... and so on. In the host family you put an length report parameter that measure on a dimension that is between the wall and the marker from the nested panels (you select the markers by TAB ...it will be a shape handle). Than you make a nested IF formula to detect what panel is it and to put the correct area for your parameter.
