How did you test it? What were your settings? We separate the notes into a different "parent" so they are easier to find. If we want to have the keynotes use standard 1-100 numbering, then the settings would be "by sheet" and "by sheet", if we want the exact keyvalue to show up, then the keynote settings need to be "by keynote" or project as I call it. When using by sheet and by sheet, the text note show up as well in the legend.

The "Text" version should be the same as the rest of the keynotes....all that changes is it reads the text part instead of number. I just tested it (as I usually use only numbers) and it doesn't show up on my keynote legend.

Could you post a dummy file with a couple notes in it? I haven't used the "By Sheet" for anything so I don't know enough about it.

If you haven't seen them already:

Some of those probably reference one-another but the data is good. Steve has an awesome write-up in the second link on user keynotes and regular keynotes.

    Keynotes and Text

    Good afternoon,

Ive seen several posts about this but none quite have the answer that Im looking for. Here's the situation and description of keynotes which most should know. Ive implemented the use of Keynote Manager within our office. Im also trying to shy the office away from using dumb text.

When using Keynotes, there are 2 different display settings I know of. "By Project" and "By Sheet" with a third option of "by sheet" within the keynote legend.

The .txt file has a parent keynote, a key value and key text. The Key Value needs to be unique for each line item which has an affect about whats displayed based on the settings. In our case we are using a few different letters to signify which discipline the note refers too. This is more so the case when multiple disciplines are within the same model.

In AutoCAD, each sheet had its own work notes, numbered 1-whatever. But those numbered work notes could be different from sheet to sheet. So the office has moved towards one master list, showing all notes on every sheet regardless of it showing there or not in order to maintain that note #1 is the same on all sheets. I absolutely hate this by the way because there could be 50+ notes on a sheet and only 3 of them are actually used. 50+ notes on a job is commonplace around here too.

If I check the box "by project", then no matter where the keynote is tagged it will display in the keynote legend. If I check "by project" and "by sheet" in the keynote legend, than only those notes tagged in the view will display but the numbering would skip around. If I check "by sheet" and "by sheet" then the keynote legend will display 1, 2, 3, 4, etc in the order they were tagged regardless of the order they are in Keynote Manager.

Ive also created a "text" version of the keynote tag so that we can tag generic notes like 2"W UP, 18"x18"SA DN, etc. and have it be a tag and not be dumb text.

This is where things are getting complicated. Within Keynote Manager, we add a new parent called "Text Notes" and give key values that start with a "T". If I use the "by project" setting and filter out the "T" from the keynote legend than everything works fine. If I use the "by sheet" and "by sheet" settings and even if the key value says "T#", even with the filter set, whatever has been placed in as a text keynote will show in the keynote legend.

So the questions are; am I missing something? If so, what? How are you guys handling "text" notes in your views? Is there a better way, while maintaining NOT using dumb text? :banghead:

The text notes could be unique or they could be very consistent, just depends. Thanks.
