    Takeoff position

How do I control duct takeoff position?

Sometimes it takes off from side of the duct, while other times it takes off from top or bottom - i don't know why it happens and how to control it.

I keep myself in a plan view always when running ductwork. I use the "Inherit Elevation" tool to make sure the duct runouts are consistent elevations as the main duct branch.

Which side of a duct you will connect a flex duct depends on the offset while sketching a flex duct. So, to connect flex duct to the side of the duct you need to setup the same offset of the flex pipe as the duct is. But in my opinion it is better to place tees and after that to sketch flex duct between tee and air terminal.

Similar to what maiko said, I always draw a short segment (~300mm) of straight hard duct before drawing the flex duct. In my case we use takeoffs rather than tees, and we use a damper-less takeoff which forces people to put the damper in the short run of duct.
